Stephan El Shaarawy emotional after scoring in win over Feyenoord

Roma attacker Stephan El Shaarawy sounded emotional in the aftermath of Roma’s win over Feyenoord.

The Italian winger contributed to the team’s victory by coming on early in the second half, replacing injured Gini Wijnaldum, and scoring to give Roma the lead on aggregate.

Following the final whistle, El Shaarawy spoke to Roma TV about the thoughts and feelings racing through his head and heart.

“A magical night. A very important victory, one that belongs to everyone. The fans really played with us, it’s their victory too,” he said.

“We were convinced we’d go through, as we were in the Conference League quarterfinals last year. The vibe was similar.”

“We knew that a great performance could be made, we did it with spirit and sacrifice. Even those who entered as the game went on gave everything.”

“I always give everything for this shirt: today I sacrificed myself, playing in 4 positions. They are all roles that I can and am happy to cover to help the team. I’m at 55 goals for Roma, I’m happy but I mustn’t stop: there are still some games to go. I’m ready.”
