Talks between Roma and Marseille continue for Pau Lopez, Cengiz Ünder

Roma’s Pau Lopez and Cengiz Ünder are getting closer to respective loan moves to French giants Marseille.

According to Sky Sport journalist Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between the two clubs will continue this week for the duo. The Spanish shot-stopper is closing in on a loan move with an option to buy for €15 million. Ünder, meanwhile, is also in talks to join the club on loan with an option to buy, but for a figure worth €12 million.

For Lopez, the transfer could help Roma avoid a loss if the French side decide to exercise the option to buy. The goalkeeper’s value on the club’s books is currently €14.1 million after they paid €23.5 million for him two years ago.

The club’s top priority this summer is thinning-out their bloated squad and selling their surplus of players. Executive Tiago Pinto preferred offload some players before bringing reinforcements for manager José Mourinho.

Consequently, these two deals would give the Giallorossi the breathing room they need to finalise their first incoming transfers. Roma are finalising transfers for both Granit Xhaka and Rui Patricio — they also remain in talks for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Filip Kostić.
