Corriere dello Sport has reported this morning that negotiations between Roma and Manchester United on a permanent deal for Chris Smalling are becoming increasingly complicated — leading to pessimism that a deal will ultimately be reached.
Because of this, Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi is, reportedly, searching for alternatives should he be unable to strike a deal for the Englishman.
At the moment, the most concrete option Is Barcelona’s Jean-Clair Todibo, who’s on loan at Schalke.
The German side possess an option to buy the Frenchman, however, they’re very unlikely to exercise it due to the economic hardships brought on by the Coronavirus.
Barcelona would be open to sending the defender on loan again with the Giallorossi being a possible destination.
