The Ambassador of Qatar in Italy, His Excellency Abdulaziz Ahmed Almalki Aljehni, was interviewed today by affaritaliani.it following the presentation of the World Cup logo in Qatar in 2022. He was asked about Qatar’s sponsorship of Roma and even discussed a potential Qatari acquisition of the club. These are his words:
“There are excellent relations between us and the mayor of Rome, we‘ve met several times. We are still working on several projects involving us as an embassy, the city of Rome and the Emir of Qatar. Our sponsorship with Roma? The embassy is very happy with this sponsorship and this relationship that has been established between AS Roma and our nation for several years. Plus, I personally like Roma, I’m a fan of them and so I’m twice as happy because of this connection”.
“Purchasing Roma? Everything is possible. At the moment, I am not aware of anything between Roma and Qatar but if in the future this is a possibility, my country will seize the opportunity. The state is very careful to invest in projects where there is strong potential, in any field. Whether in sports, industrial, economic or military fields, it makes no difference because we work under every aspect. If the purchase of Roma proves to be a good deal, Qatar will make its proposal”.
