The future landscape of the Serie A: 19/20 title race continues

Juventus were heading towards a 10-point gap in the Serie A when they took a two-nil lead against AC Milan, but a late resurgence from Stefano Pioli’s men prevented the Bianconeri from making their lead double digits at the top of the table.

The Zlatan Ibrahimovic-led Rossoneri battled back to defeat Maurizio Sarri’s men by a scoreline of 4-2, just three days after the hammered Lazio by a score of 3-0.

Sarri’s squad took an early lead against the Rossoneri thanks to goals from Adrien Rabiot and Ronaldo, but AC Milan flipped their entire gameplay into a winning formula. Ibrahimovic scored one and also grabbed an assist.

Milan boss Stefano Pioli, who has been tipped to leave the club at the end of the season, saw hope in his team’s chances at securing European qualification for the 2020/2021 season.

Despite the loss, Juve are still on track for their ninth consecutive Scudetto. They currently sit eight points clear of a Lazio side who have collapsed in recent weeks after losses to Milan, Lecce, and Sassuolo.

Lazio’s 3-0 loss to Milan was convenient for Juventus, who could have seen their eventual top-of-the-table lead shrink to just one point.

The Biancocelesti have struggled to find form following the resumption of play last month. Their meltdown has been clear in their results and their performances as Lazio defender Patric was banned recently for biting Lecce’s Giulio Donati.

“Our dream must continue, which is to qualify mathematically for the Champions League,” Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia. “We hope to achieve it as soon as possible, but that is our only objective.”

The Bookmakers agreement

The odds and the handicappers love Lazio’s chances to qualify for this next year’s Champions League competition — in fact, the experts at SBR agree with the expectations.

Critics weren’t expecting Lecce to end their six-match losing streak in such dramatic fashion against Lazio.

Fabio Liverani’s side, who currently sit 18th in the Serie A table, took advantage of a decimated Lazio side, who have been ravaged with injuries.

As the surprises continue, we know that Serie A fans will be treated to a very exciting end for the 2019/2020 season.
