Tiago Pinto, the General Director of Roma, dismissed the notion that the future of manager Paulo Fonseca’s depends entirely on the outcome of their Europa League tie against Ajax.
Speaking to Sky Sport, the Portuguese executive backed the Giallorossi’s under-fire manager ahead of the first leg against the Dutch giants.
“Obviously Fonseca’s future doesn’t depend entirely on these two games against Ajax,” he said.
“What matters most is the present. We’re all focused on what we need to do to achieve our goals. I respect your job, but I don’t understand these constant questions about the manager. Just look at how many other coaches in Italy have contracts that expire in June.”
“All we’re focused is on is winning tonight, the entire team is united. In order to change the mentality at a club, you need to win. This is what we’re working on to achieve.”
