Tiago Pinto before Milan-Roma: “Tonight is important. Maitland-Niles is close.”

Roma general manager Tiago Pinto appeared on DAZN ahead of tonight’s league showdown against Milan.

The Portuguese executive reiterated the importance of tonight’s fixture and also provided an update on the club’s winter transfer market.

“The match against Atalanta was psychologically important,” explained Pinto.

“But just like the manager said yesterday: there is no better way to start the year than with a match like this. We know the quality of Milan, but we want to win and I am confident we can do it.”

The 37 year-old then confirmed a deal for Maitland-Niles is close, however, he stayed quiet about the rumors linking Roma with a move for Porto midfielder Sergio Oliveira.

“There’s no need to hide things about Maitland-Niles. We’re talking with Arsenal and there’s some procedures that need to be taken care of over the coming hours, but I think it’s close.”

“As for the rest, there’s many names being linked with us but I won’t say anything when there aren’t any important updates. It’s true regarding Maitland-Niles, right now it’s not the time to discuss the midfielders.”
