Tiago Pinto discusses his duties as Roma’s General Manager

Roma executive Tiago Pinto shared insight into the club’s financial and sporting objectives as well as his tasks as General Manager.

In an interview with Sportitalia, Pinto said, “Sporting directors have now become part-time financial executives. This year we were forced to generate revenue from the sales of young players. When you start the year with a negative net balance, you only have one form of repair and that is to sell players.”

“Saudi Arabia? What happens with Saudi Arabia already happened with the Premier League. It’s the way the market operates. I think they have a medium to long-term goal and we need to prepare for that reality. With Roma we too had a player in the Brazilian national team [Ibanez] who was ultimately lured into going to Saudi Arabia.”

“At Roma I can’t compete with Al Hilal, Manchester City, or even Brighton. So you have to reinvent yourself. In my job I always have to create a harmonious environment with coaching and scouting departments. At Roma we know exactly the type of player that we can realistically sign. We go through many meetings with the coach and the ownership, it’s a team effort.”
