Roma General Manager Tiago Pinto was asked to comment on the latest rumors linking the capital club with defensive reinforcements in January.

In his pre-match interview with DAZN prior to Juventus-Roma, Pinto said, “I always tell the truth and I am always very clear about what goes on behind the scenes. It’s true that we need a central defender, we’ve known this for some time. We are working on it, but we have a settlement agreement to respect, a transfer budget to work with.”

“I will try to be creative to find a sporting solution that suits the coach, but also an economic-tactical solution that suits the club,” he added.

“Renato Sanches? He will always be my pupil, I don’t care about how his time will end here. When he arrived we were all aware of the limitations he had. The technical staff and the medical staff did a good job to put him in the best condition, then when the transfer market arrives and the players don’t play… Maybe his people expected more and everything must be evaluated for his sake.”

“For Renato, from the first day to the last, I took responsibility for his signing. I don’t do it when the players do very well, but when they do terrible, yes, I’m used to it.”
