Tiago Pinto outlines Roma’s January transfer window

Andy Mattioli

Roma General Manager Tiago Pinto took the stage – following the appearances of Jose Mourinho and Nemanja Matic at today’s press conference in Tokyo – to discuss Roma’s upcoming January transfer window.

“We will undoubtedly take into consideration the manager’s opinion but also the limitations imposed by FFP. However, we’re in Japan and I don’t intend to talk about the market yet.”

“The Friedkins? If there were more families like the Friedkins in football it would be better for everyone. They have the right vision and don’t just think about earnings.”

“Negotiating with Mourinho was easy, even if people don’t believe it. He was convinced by the project and by the city. This was also the case with Dybala and Tammy: they are not people who only seek money when signing a contract.”

On Tammy Abraham and Cristian Volpato (who were also present at the presser): “Tammy is a fantastic player. In my opinion he will be one of the best in the world soon, I have no doubt about it. Roma needs players like him.”

“Then there’s Cristian, who is part of the club’s growth process and best represents the role of our academy: in the last 20 months, 14 players have made their debut from the Primavera side. Cristian is now a regular player of the first team. They are two players who represent our long-term strategy.”
