Tiago Pinto urges Roma to bounce back against Milan after Coppa Italia elimination

Roma director Tiago Pinto preview tonight’s league showdown at San Siro against Milan—confident the squad won’t lack motivation following their midweek Coppa Italia elimination at the hands of rivals Lazio.

“It’s not difficult to recoup after you suffer a cup elimination and a loss in the Derby,” he told DAZN.

“We knew this would be a tough stretch for us, just look at the calendar and you’ll see the difficult run of matches we have. Nonetheless, big teams are eager to get back on track right away, so we’re here with the ambition of bringing home all three points despite knowing it’s going to be hard.”

Pinto also addressed the Giallorossi’s approach in the remaining weeks of the January transfer market.

“Our priority was a defender prior to the arrival of Huijsen, who did well in his debut and the Derby. I’ve spoken about our (transfer market) limitations numerous times, but there’s some things we want to resolve before the end of the month. Right now we’re focused on sales, though.”

Finally, he addressed the future of manager Jose Mourinho, whose contract expires this June.

“My thoughts on this situation are simple: we need to remain focused on the present—which is this game,” he stated.

“The same goes for my situation, ideally I wouldn’t even be asked questions like this right before a match. The appropriate people will address the future plans at the appropriate time.”
