Roma General Manager Tiago Pinto could prove a key component in helping secure a new deal for head coach Jose Mourinho.

With his future at the club still unclear, Mourinho was recently backed by the Giallorossi ownership and management in an effort to protect him from the backlash received by the media and certain members of some of the country’s largest sporting organizations including FIGC and AIA.

Pinto, in particular, stepped in front of cameras prior to the match with Sassuolo on Sunday to reaffirm his stance and declare his support for the Special One.

This episode did not go unnoticed by the club’s ownership, reports La Repubblica.

Pinto is on very good terms with Roma President Dan Friedkin and his decision to publicly back and voice his support for Mourinho could lead the Friedkins to reconsider Mourinho’s future in the capital.

The Portuguese technician is still waiting for a discussion regarding his future plans: Pinto could help in advancing such talks.
