Totti: “Mourinho is the lightning rod this city needed.”

Roma legend Francesco Totti recently spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport where he shared his thoughts on Roma’s new season under Jose Mourinho, the team’s most exciting players and more.

On Roma being re-born under the leadership of Mourinho:

“The incredible bit of news is that he has chosen Roma. He is a flexible coach, who has won a lot, has charisma. Undoubtedly he is a great character and a great motivator for the team.”

“It has always been and remains an added value: both on the pitch and in the management of the group.”

“He surprised me with his ability to tune into the environment immediately. He puts himself in front of everyone, acts as a lightning rod, a skill that in a city like Rome can be decisive.”

On Zaniolo making a comeback after two serious injuries:

“He is young and returns after two serious injuries. We all hope he becomes a champion but he has yet to prove everything.”

“For all that has happened to him, he has all the more reason to “help himself” more by training and working hard. Growing up he matures – he must also do it from a character and professional point of view, to surround himself with people who help him.”

“What happens off the pitch in Rome is fundamental: he comes in front of everything. He has great prospects and can certainly make a great career: let’s think about it in ten years to see what level he will have reached by then.”

On Tammy Abraham:

“He is an international talent, he comes from Chelsea. He is young, he offers things that we have not been seen in Rome for a while and that have thrilled the fans. He is technically very good and he’s a player who fights, I am sure he will do well.”

On who he is betting on to become Roma’s player of the season:

“I hope Lorenzo Pellegrini. Rome and Roma understand the value of this boy: he is really strong and has all the moral skills you need to be a leader.”

“He knows how to behave, he knows how to stay in his place, he is humble. He is a worthy captain.”
