Roma legend Francesco Totti weighed in on the Giallorossi’s summer transfer market, including the recent acquisition of Nemanja Matić.

The capital club have been linked with several players this summer, aiming to carry the momentum from their Conference League title win and improve their sixth-placed finish in Serie A.

The 45 year-old was asked if the likes of Matić, right back Zeki Çelik and midfielder Davide Frattesi can get Roma closer to fighting for a Champions League place finish.

“To get results you need great players,” he told Sky Sport.

“If Mourinho made the decision to bring Matić then it means he can be a useful player for this team. He’s shown his worth in Europe in big teams. It takes the right mentality to come to Rome.”

“Roma are aiming to get back into the Champions League and do so consistently. These three players you mentioned certainly make them more competitive and can get them there sooner rather than later.”

Adding “But as I’ve always said, you need champions in order to win.”
