Totti talks about emotional return to Stadio Olimpico

Andy Mattioli

Roma legend Francesco Totti was in the stands at the Olimpico cheering on the team as the Giallorossi came out defeated against Simone Inzaghi’s inter.

The former captain was recently announced as Global Ambassador of Digitalbits, Roma’s main sponsor. The announcement was followed by a short press conference where Totti touched upon the Friedkin ownership, Mourinho and more.

“I joined Digitalbits, but in this case Roma has nothing to do with it.”

“Surely when it comes to Roma there is always a great emotion, as a fan I say that we are not going through a great moment but if you are not from Rome you will not suffer.”

“We are used to these fluctuating years but I am sure that both the club and the coach want to make us fans smile again, this city deserves to see the team play on bigger stages.”

“We should give them time and give ourselves time to see Roma play on international stages and play well.”

On whether collaborating with Digitalbits indicates future collaborations with Roma:

“If we were to talk about the future I don’t know what it holds for me, through Digitalbits maybe I will have more opportunities to talk to the club, but they are completely different things.”

“With Digitalbits we immediately had a good feeling, we found each other and we will make a beautiful journey together. As far as Roma is concerned, anything can happen.”

“I spoke to Dan Friedkin on Saturday before the game.”

On where he sees himself in ten years from now:

“I’m already different today, I don’t know in ten years, I hope to do things that come to me from within, to do them with desire, determination and instinct.”

“I don’t know what the future has in store for me, but I do everything with dedication, respect and desire as I did for 30 years with my Roma, it was my first home.”

“I can say ‘my Roma’ and I’m proud of it.”

On returning to the stadium for Roma-Inter:

“It was a different feeling, after two years of not going to the stadium to see Roma had a special effect on me.”

“I had been to see Italy-Switzerland, but it’s different. When Roma play you feel right at home. These are sensations that you only perceive internally and it had a huge effect on me, I thank the fans for the welcome they give me every day, not just at the stadium, and I hope to return as soon as possible.”

On what Roma are currently missing:

“I have already said everything about this, when you have to take the important step it means that you have many things at your disposal that can help you get what you want.”

“To win you need the players, an important coach, a club that helps and makes you feel at home.”

“The primary thing is the players are needed, it is a necessity, I don’t want to undermine the team we have now, it is a squad with important players, there are no champions but players who can do well in a the context of a group, the champions alone cannot succeed.”
