RomaPress – Despite a bit part role this season, Roma’s Cengiz Ünder wants to remain in the Premier League next season following his loan spell with Leicester City.
The Turkish attacker joined the Foxes last summer on loan with an option to buy for figure worth around €23 million. However, barring a last-second change of heart, the English side won’t exercise this option and Ünder will return to Roma.
But even with the impending departure of Paulo Fonseca and arrival of José Mourinho, the 23 year-old would prefer to continue playing in the Premier League. Ünder has already given the mandate to his agent, Utku Cenikli, who will meet with Roma executive Tiago Pinto in the coming weeks to resolve the situation.
Ünder struggled this season with Leicester, appearing in 19 matches in all competitions and registering two goals and three assists. He didn’t start in a single Premier League match and primarily featured in the Europa League for Brendan Rodgers.
He previously drew interest in Italy from Milan and Napoli, however, he opted to move abroad last summer after falling down the pecking order under Paulo Fonseca.
