United won’t lower €20m asking price for Smalling

Roma were confident in being able to close the deal for Chris Smalling today — but Sky Sport reports that the Giallorossi and Manchester United still haven’t reached an agreement for the defender.

Reportedly, the Red Devils will not lower their asking price of €20 million for the 30 year-old, who spent last season on loan in the Italian capital.

The Giallorossi, as of now, have no other alternatives to the player, who has explicitly requested to the English side that he only wants to join Roma.

Roma boss Paulo Fonseca has also requested to the club that they bring Smalling — if they’re unable to do so, they are unlikely to purchase another central defender.

The clubs will renew contact tomorrow in the hopes of reaching an agreement.
