van der Sar: “Ideally we would have agreed to a new contract with him.”

Edwin van der Sar, the CEO of Ajax, spoke today to Omnisport about the transfer of Justin Kluivert to Roma. These are his words:

“Kluivert? It’s an interesting case. Ideally we would have agreed to a new contract with him. We spoke for 15 months with him and his agent and somehow we couldn’t get closer. We thought it would have benefited him for another year, two years, to play at Ajax, with his friends. He came through the academy, playing with us for 9-10 years. He is now turning into a senior player. We thought playing with us for another year and get the capabilities (would help). He’s a strong player, he is quick, scores goals, assists, so I wish him the best in Rome.”
