The wait is finally over: Roma midfielder Jordan Veretout has earned his first senior call-up to the France national team.
The news was revealed just moments ago after manager Didier Deschamps published his list of call-ups for his team’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Veretout is one of four newcomers for Les Bleus along with Theo Hernanez, Moussa Diaby, and Tchouameni Aurélien. Deschamps was keen to bring new blood into the team’s mix following their disastrous showing at this summer’s Euro tournament.
It’s a well-deserved yet long overdue call-up for the ex-Fiorentina man, who has become one of the most effective box to box midfielders in all of Serie A.
The 28 year-old hasn’t featured internationally for his country in nearly seven years, with his last appearance occurring in November 2014 for France’s U21 side.
