Roma midfielder Jordan Veretout recounted his decision to join the capital club nearly two years ago.

The Frenchman joined the Giallorossi on a permanent deal from Fiorentina in the summer of 2019, arriving just weeks after manager Paulo Fonseca.

Simce arriving, Veretout has totaled 18 goals and 6 assists in 77 appearances in all competitions — having transformed into one of the team’s most crucial players.

“This is a historic club,” he said to rtl.fr.

“Several clubs contacted me, but in the end I wanted Roma. The city and the sort of life my family and I would have played a large part in the decision.”

The ex-Nantes man also discussed his success from the penalty spot. Since arriving in Rome, the midfielder has become the primary penalty kick taker, scoring on all twelve of his attempts.

“It’s something I’m proud of. When players of the caliber of Dzeko and Kolarov tell you to take the penalties, it inevitably gives you a lot of confidence.”
