Vermaelen a step away from Roma

Spanish outlet Sport claims Thomas Vermaelen is on the verge of joining Roma as Barça and the Giallorossi have reached an agreement in principle to complete the deal.

An agreement was reached after discussions took place between Luis Enrique and Walter Sabatini. The sides held positive talks with the representatives of Vermaelen who, in the coming days, could travel to the Italian capital to complete a medical.

With this contract, Vermaelen will receive a €3.5 million net salary per season and be tied to Roma until June 30, 2019.

The deal could be closed for around €10 million following an agreement between the two clubs.

Vermaelen joined Barça for €19 million from Arsenal in 2014 and has made just 21 appearances for the Blaugrana in two seasons.
