Reportedly, Vermaelen was in Belgium this week to consult with a doctor regarding his condition. Roma are now at a crossroads with the player because they must decide, along with the player and his entourage, whether to try to continue with physical therapy or whether to opt for surgery, which would likely keep him out for the remainder of the season. Roma and Barcelona will now hold talks to decide the best course of action. Should they decide to opt for surgery, then it’s possible the player’s loan at Roma would end and the Belgian would return to Barca for rehabilitation.
