Gonzalo Villar, after a series of rumors linking him with an exit from Roma during the last summer transfer window, finally got his chance to start for the first time this season under the watchful eye of Jose Mourinho.
The 23-year-old midfielder spoke to the team’s official channels following the 5-1 victory over CSKA Sofia on Thursday night.
“We are happy because we played a good game, it is not easy because it’s a new competition for everyone, even for us, and we don’t know what the teams are like. Now let’s rest and continue like this.”
On the team’s progress over the first six games of the new campaign:
“We’re already thinking about Verona because we want to continue like this, we have not done anything but we are happy with how the season started.”
On Roma’s depth and Mourinho’s decision-making:
“We have a strong roster. No matter who plays, we are all prepared when the coach wants us to play. We have a lot of quality, not only among the starters but the whole squad as well, so the coach can feel comfortable with the players at his disposal.”
