Vincent Candela backs Mourinho, praises Roger Ibanez

Andy Mattioli

Former Roma fullback Vincent Candela – a member of the Scudetto winning squad in 2001 – spoke about the team’s progress with Jose Mourinho in a recent interview with Corriere dello Sport.

“This year the goal is to do better and better to get to the Champions League, but it’s not easy because the league has become so much more competitive over the years,” the French footballer said.

“The team has suffered several injuries. We miss Dybala’s impact, and the derby loss was a pretty heavy hit for the team. We could have done without it. Before the match against Lazio we were doing well, then with that defeat came a decline in the team’s performances.”

“Ibanez can become one of the world’s best defenders, but he must work on his concentration. It’s a shame, because after that mistake of his in the derby something changed for the rest of the team.”

“Mourinho? Him and Capello are certified winners. They both know how to coach great clubs. They’re brilliant motivators, and they feed off the energy of the crowd and the team.”
