Former Roma defender Vincent Candela discussed the appointment of Daniele De Rossi and his early impact on the team.
Candela – a member of the 2001 Scudetto-winning squad – spoke to Corriere dello Sport about De Rossi’s coaching opportunity.
“It is still early, but we have already noticed Daniele’s enthusiasm, character, the desire he has transmitted to the whole team, the energy which he brought and which was much needed.”
“The way the team moves on the pitch has also changed. They look to attack more. I am in favor of more proactive football, we saw El Shaarawy with more conviction, Dybala more up front and less dedicated to the defensive phase, the back four, Cristante who is now free to attack the open space in front of him.”
“Daniele is clearly very inspired by Spalletti, he respects him but interprets football with the intelligence of the great midfielder he was.”
“He represents the Roman spirit, the desire of the Roman warrior,” added Candela.
“Lukaku? In the last four games, with Daniele on the bench, he has participated more in the game, he always brings two men behind him, he has helped Pellegrini and Dybala to fit in. Before maybe he had two chances and scored every time he got the ball, but now he’s doing a great job with different tasks.”
