Vitesse manager Thomas Letsch admitted he was disappointed by his team’s 1-0 Conference League defeat to Roma.
The German technician’s side were defeated by the Giallorossi in the first leg of their double-tie thanks to a first half goal from Sergio Oliveira.
“We were in control in the first and played just as we wanted,” Letsch told the media during his post match press conference.
“The result is disappointing but the tie is only halfway over. We shouldn’t bother showing up in Rome if we don’t believe we can win.”
“I appreciate Mourinho’s compliments but I would’ve preferred if he was congratulating me instead. Nonetheless, we’re aware Roma is normally at a different level than us. However, we showed we can play against them.”
The two sides will meet again next Thursday in Rome for the second leg of the affair.
