Just one day after their Conference League defeat to Roma, Vitesse announced the club has been put up for sale by majority shareholder Valeriy Oyf.
Oyf, a Russian oligarch, will also resign from the Dutch side’s Supervisory Board with immediate effect amid the war in Ukraine.
“It pains me a lot to say goodbye to Vitesse, but in the current situation I am making this difficult decision in the interests of the club, employees, fans, sponsors and other stakeholders,” said Oyf in a press release published on Vitesse’s website.
“I always felt very involved with the club and enjoyed the great performances. The club and the supporters will remain in my heart.”
The news comes ahead of next week’s return leg in the Italian capital.
