Former Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini touched upon the upcoming showdown at the Olimpico between Spalletti’s Napoli and the Giallorossi led by Jose Mourinho.

Sabatini praised the Special One’s impact on the club in a recent interview with Corriere dello Sport.

“Mourinho is a manager whom the club he works for depends on,” said the Italian director. “I don’t know where Roma would be without him.”

“Sure, he plays a certain way. His football is cold and cynical, and all those other things which I do not care for, but… he is up there in the top four in Serie A which makes him a Scudetto contender.”

“And mind you, he’s missing Wijnaldum and Dybala, who will recover. He’s got Smalling, the world class vegan, playing unbelievably well. He’s essential to the team: he’s responsible for tightening the backline, scaring off the opponent’s main attacker, and then, if he has the time, he can also score goals.”

“That’s where Mourinho’s effect also manifests itself,” Sabatini concluded.
