Former Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini sounded enthusiastic about Daniele De Rossi’s first managerial appointment at SPAL in Serie B.
The ex-Giallorossi director discussed De Rossi’s decision to dive into the world of first team coaching in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I wrote to [SPAL President, Joe] Tacopina after he had already made his decision: I complimented him,” Sabatini told the Italian newspaper.
“I tried to bring Daniele to Bologna a few years ago, to be in charge of the Primavera.”
“I am really happy for him and perhaps as much as he is. I get to say that I’m slightly excited.”
“I’m in love with him because he’s in love with football. He studied, informed himself, studied tactical and training methods, he worked with quality technicians with experience, I think of Zeman, Luis Henrique, Spalletti, Lippi, and many others. Here: he must treasure everything he has learned and summarise it in his own work.”
“He will be able to do it. I’m convinced he’ll do well because he was already a natural coach on the pitch.”
