Wijnaldum analyzes performance with Lecce, discusses return from injury

Dutch midfielder Gini Wijnaldum was finally able to return to the field after missing the past five months with a leg fracture he suffered in late August.

The ex-Liverpool man was given a little over ten minutes of playing time in last night’s draw with Lecce.

Following the match, Wijnaldum detailed his impressions to Roma TV. “I think overall it was a good performance,” he said. “Especially in the first half.”

“We played well and created many good chances,” he continued. “We got off to a good start in the second half, but encountered some difficulties in the end because Lecce were pressing very well and their supporters kept giving them energy.”

“Also the pitch wasn’t easy to play on, it definitely wasn’t the best pitch we’ve played on this season.”

“Despite the result, I’m happy because after five months of hard work following the injury I can finally say that I am back and I am once again a footballer.”

“Coming on was a really nice moment for me, even if it was only ten minutes and in a difficult moment of the game. From now on I hope I can play more.”
