Wijnaldum celebrates second Roma goal vs Sampdoria

Andy Mattioli

Dutch midfielder Gini Wijnaldum helped secure three points in Roma’s 3-0 victory over Sampdoria.

The ex-Liverpool man’s header helped open the scoreline in the early stages of the second half in today’s Serie A fixture at Stadio Olimpico.

“It was important to win after the last two negative results,” Wijnaldum told DAZN after the game. “It was also important for us to win today in order to stay in the Champions League zone.”

“I would have liked to score in the first half as well, too bad about the post, but I’m happy with the goal.”

Regarding the fans’ support, Wijnaldum remarked, “I felt the love from these fans from day one, even when I got hurt their support was amazing. I wanted to pay them back and I always do my best.”

“Today I’m very happy with the goal and with the penalty I obtained. I will always give everything for these people.”

“My future? My future does not depend on whether we reach the Champions League. When I decided to come here, I proved it since this club didn’t participate in the Champions League. I thought the coach wanted me badly, so I decided based on my feelings and sensations.”

“I don’t know what will happen this summer because there are other factors to consider, but I have to say that I am very comfortable here and I feel very happy.”
