Wijnaldum to begin regular training at the end of the month

Andy Mattioli

Roma were dealt a huge blow to start the new season after one of their top summer signings – Gini Wijnaldum – went down with a serious injury in the campaign’s opening stages.

The ex-Liverpool man is expected to return from his fractured tibia injury sometime within the next 4-6 weeks.

The Dutchman suffered the blow during the final portion of a late August training session which sidelined him for nearly five months.

The player’s recovery proceeds steadily, but Roma are unlikely to see him on the pitch before late January, reports Il Tempo.

However, according to the Italian newspaper, the Dutchman will begin regular group training at the end of this month, in order to slot in more easily with the start of the season’s second half.
