Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso complimented himself with Roma after his side were eliminated from the Europa League semi-final earlier tonight.
In his post-match reaction, Alonso paid respect to Roma and wished them good luck for the final with Sevilla.
“I am disappointed for the players and the fans, we had a great opportunity to go to the final. The players fought hard tonight. I’m optimistic about the future,” he told reporters after the game.
“What happened to tonight is incredible. It’s frustrating but I don’t want to cry. We had the opportunities to score goals, we gave everything to get to the final. We prepared well, we wanted to live up to it, the big difference is the goal conceded in the first leg.”
“Perhaps we deserved more tonight, but I don’t want to cry, I can only say congratulations to Roma and good luck for the final.”
