Xabi Alonso: “Roma among the teams that can fight for the Europa League.”

Former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso, who is the current manager of Real Sociedad’s B team, spoke to UEFA’s official website today and revealed that he believes Roma are among the sides who can fight for the Europa League title.

“There are many teams to keep an eye on such as Arsenal, AS Roma, Milan, and the one’s who finish third in their Champions League group — they’ll be bringing great players into the competition,” said the Spaniard.

”However, it’s still too early to call. As for us (Real Sociedad), we want to compete and be ambitious, but we also want to enjoy this competition: we haven’t been here in many years and it’s a great chance for us”.

Roma face Cluj today in Romania for their fourth Europa League group stage match.
