Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso analyzed his side’s defeat with Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in the first leg of the Europa League semifinal.

“We are not happy, we did not want this defeat but we know that we have another chance next week,” Alonso said in his post-match press conference.

“We have to win the game, there is no speculation. There is no margin for error, we need to be focused.”

“Mourinho? We hadn’t seen each other for almost 10 years, but from a tactical point of view I expected to face a strong team like his.”

“Pellegrini and Bove are very strong, they controlled the game well. The first 10 minutes we had several good chances, but unfortunately we didn’t take advantage of them.”
