Roma’s top priority for January is the midfield, where an additional reinforcement could help give some much needed rest to either Veretout or Cristante, both of whom have started almost every single game for the Giallorossi so far in this campaign.
The number one name is that of Denis Zakaria.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Zakaria has already given his availability for a move to the Italian capital. However, two complications arise in a deal that would see the Swiss international join Roma in January.
First, the player has switched agents: a sign that points to Zakaria wanting to monetize on the contract of his life. As a free agent, the player will be able to dictate the figures of his future salary.
Second of all, Borussia Mönchengladbach are reportedly stalling the deal because they want to wait for the highest bidder come January. The German side hope to at least receive a small fee for the player whose contract is set to expire in June 2022.
It is worth noting that the 24-year-old is pursued by Juventus and Inter.
The alternative to Zakaria remains Florian Grillitsch of Hoffenhaim. The Austrian midfielder is also one of the top Bundesliga free agents. His profile is well-liked at Trigoria.
