In a night that saw him become the protagonist of Roma’s comeback victory over a struggling Verona side, youngster Cristian Volpato found himself in the spotlight of supporters, media and his own teammates.
The 18-year-old’s impact on Mourinho’s team in the second half propelled Roma toward a precious away win at the Stadio Bentegodi.
After the final whistle, Nicolo Zaniolo – who was replaced by Volpato around the 60th minute after picking up an injury early in the second half – congratulated himself with the former Primavera attacker on Instagram.
In a story published shortly afterwards, Zaniolo wrote to Volpato, “I’m so happy for you! You deserve the very best. This is the beginning of a long series.”
