Roma starlet Nicolo Zaniolo’s return to the pitch from injury is getting closer. More than five months since the operation to repair the torn ACL in his right knee, the Italian is targeting an early April return.
Zaniolo initially suffered the injury in early September while on national team duty with Italy — his second torn ACL within nine months. The operation was performed on September 13th in Austria by Dr. Cristian Fink, who has also been overseeing the player’s recovery via videoconference.
Today, though, his path to recovery entered its final phase. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fink gave him the “OK” to begin running on his surgically knee – the last step before he can begin full training.
Zaniolo reportedly has his eyes set on Roma’s match against Bologna on 11 April for his return. However, an exact date will not be determined until Fink visits the player in-person, which is expected to take place in late March.
