Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini

After receiving their second consecutive national team call-up from Roberto Mancini, Nicolo Zaniolo and Lorenzo Pellegrini will be forced to to forfeit their involvement with Italy for the time being.

According to Corriere dello Sport, a decision has been taken by Roma’s medical staff in collaboration with the national team staff to have both players return to the capital.

The captain and Zaniolo left Italy’s retreat at Coverciano earlier today and are currently on their way to Rome, where they will initiate their recovery process.

Pellegrini is still suffering from an inflammation to his left knee. Zaniolo, on the other hand, is dealing with muscle fatigue in his calf and knee.
