Former Roma attacker and current Aston Villa start Nicolo Zaniolo reflected on his exit from the Italian capital.
Zaniolo departed Roma in February after a falling out with Mourinho and the club’s top level management.
After a brief spell in Turkey with Galatasaray, Zaniolo committed himself to a loan deal at Aston Villa in England’s top flight.
In an interview with La Repubblica, Zaniolo said, “At Roma things could have ended differently: I feel great love for the fans, my teammates, the team, the city, and they feel the same towards me.”
“I felt it as a disappointment. I have responsibilities, but so do other people. When there’s chaos like this it means that we all did our part. But I don’t want to talk about the past, now I’m in the Premier League and I’m thinking about the future.”
“The Conference League? In the days leading up to the final, Mourinho asked everyone: “Are you ready?” For many it was the first European final. He helped us, he told us that if we had gotten there it was because of everything we had done on the pitch and that the credit was ours alone. He made us get excited to play the final.”
