Nicolo Zaniolo’s season is not going according to plan as the attacker has struggled to make a positive impact on Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven.
Plagued by a goal-scoring drought, Zaniolo has been unable to provide consistency to his performances over the last few months, culminating in a disappointing display with Milan and Genoa, where he was booed by Roma supporters.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 23-year-old relentlessness also stems from his uncertain future. Zaniolo had hoped to sign a contract extension with the club before the New Year, which did not happen as Roma’s owners – Dan and Ryan Friedkin – put a halt to negotiations with his agent, wanting to wait until the end of the season.
The Italian newspaper claims Zaniolo is upset with his situation and is demanding to know from his entourage what the future might hold for him.
