Roberto Breda – Nicolo Zaniolo’s former coach at Virtus Entella – discussed the attacker’s progress since he first joined Roma in 2018 from Inter. Breda worked closely with Zaniolo when he was only 17 years of age.
“We played a friendly against the Primavera and I noticed him. Then I asked why that young man was still not in the first team. I was told it was a matter of balance, but he was the best ones among the younger players.”
“He played a few games with us, showed everyone what he was capable of. Then Inter swooped in,” Breda said in an interview with La Casa di C.
“Zaniolo had unbelievable qualities – both physical and technical – even back then. At seventeen years of age he was already an animal.”
“Perhaps he could have improved his knowledge of the position he played in, but that’s subjective. He’s still improving to this day. Although, unfortunately injuries have slowed him down.”
“This year he also started off very well, and again: he got injured. Fortunately let’s hope it is less serious than expected.”
“I even played with his father once, but Nicolo is much better,” concluded Breda.
