Nicolo Zaniolo’s mother – Francesca Costa – expressed her frustration with the situation revolving around her son’s decision to remain at the capital club despite requesting a transfer and refusing to train with the rest of the team which provoked abusive and threatening reactions from some Roma supporters.
“Before it was only Lazio supporters who insulted him. Now it’s Roma fans, too,” his mother said in a brief interview with Corriere della Sera. “It’s a disaster.”
“I don’t like to stay quiet on these matters, but his agent told us not to say a word and more importantly, Nicolo is almost 24 years old, he’s a man and knows how to defend himself. He doesn’t need me,” she added.
Roma excluded Zaniolo from team activities until the end of the season. Following this decision, the attacker moved to his hometown of La Spezia.
