Davide Zappacosta gave his first interview today to Roma TV since his move to Roma was officially announced. These are his words:
“I’ve known about Roma’s interest for awhile, but there were some things had to be worked out. I had no doubt about arriving – for me it’s a great opportunity and I immediately want to give everything I have for this club”.
How do you feel now that you’ve arrived at Rome?
The feelings are very positive. I am very happy to have arrived here after a particular year and restarting from a place that is very motivating. I can’t wait to start working with my new teammates.
How do you rate your experience at Chelsea?
In the last two years at Chelsea, I have grown a lot on a human level, I formed a lot of character. I arrived in a different country – a new language and culture. It wasn’t easy but it was a very positive experience that helped me grow a lot from both a human and footballing standpoint.
You get to reunite with Petrachi.
The presence of Petrachi was important for me, I’ve known him since my Torino days and I know what kind of person he is and how much passion he puts into his work. He influenced my choice but I decided on my own, there was no doubt about my choice — especially given the interest was coming from a great club with younger players. This everything that’s needed to do well.
Have you already talked to Paulo Fonseca?
I spoke to the manager for 10 minutes at lunch and was introduced to my new teammates. I have heard a lot about him and I am looking forward to starting. They told me he is a hard worker, with clear ideas as well as a good motivator. The fact that he asks a lot from fullbacks could be a point in my favor, but the defensive phase also matters.
The league begins on Sunday.
My first goals in Serie A with Torino and Atalanta were against Genoa. I hope this is a good omen ahead of the start of our season. The important thing is starting well and grabbing all three points.
Do you have a message for the Roma supporters?
The only promise I can make is that from the very first moment – both in training and on match days – I will leave the pitch completely exhausted. I’m ready to restart and I’ll never fail in my commitment and desire to honour this shirt.
