The Italian FA’s (FIGC) Federal Court of Appeals handed down their sentence this evening regarding the “false accounting practices” case brought against Juventus earlier this year.

The court sanctioned the Bianconeri to an immediate penalty of 10-points, lowering their total points from 69 to 59 in the league. As a result, Max Allegri’s side now sits seventh in the Serie A table–five points outside the fourth and final Champions League place.

Juve lodged the appeal last month after they were initially handed a penalty of 15-points in January. However, those points were temporarily reinstated by The Italian Olympic Committee’s (CONI) Collegio di Garanzia pending the outcome of the appeal.

In reaction to the news, the club’s Chief Football Officer and former Roma executive, Francesco Calvo, expressed his dissatisfaction.

“Our initial reaction is obviously negative,” he told DAZN before the team’s league affair against Empoli this evening.

“We’ll release statement momentarily but this doesn’t change our mindset for this evening’s game.”

Just a few minutes later, the club released the following statement on their social media channels.

“Juventus Football Club takes note of what was decided by the FIGC Court of Appeal and reserves the right to read the reasons to evaluate a possible appeal to the Guarantee Board at CONI,” they wrote.

“What was established by the fifth instance of judgment in this matter, which began more than a year ago, arouses great bitterness in the club and in its millions of supporters who, in the absence of clear rules, find themselves extremely penalised with the application of sanctions that seem to take into account the principle of proportionality.”

“While not ignoring the need for urgency, which Juventus has never shied away from during the proceedings, it is emphasised that these are facts that still have to be evaluated by a judge.”
